Are you a LASIK eye surgery candidate?
With LASIK vision correction surgery, your goal is to improve your vision and decrease your dependence on glasses or contacts. LASIK surgery corrects refractive defects: nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), and astigmatism. It is not intended to correct the need for reading glasses (presbyopia) that individuals begin to develop as they age.
To be a candidate, you must be over 18 and have healthy eyes that is confirmed through a thorough eye exam. You need stable vision that hasn’t changed in at least a year.
Additional requirements for LASIK surgery patients:
- You do not have pre-existing corneal abnormalities or diseases
- You are not pregnant or nursing
- You do not have extreme dry eyes
- You do not develop keloids (a type of scar that can develop after an injury to the skin)
- Measurement qualifiers:
- Up to -11 diopters of nearsightedness
- Up to +1 diopters of farsightedness
- Up to 5 diopters of astigmatism
